NO MATTER THE NEWS, WE'LL KEEP SHOWING UP.

- IN THIS ISSUE -

The power of showing up, International Adaptations Conference & exciting upcoming events.

    Tēnā koutou katoa,

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received news that our proposed Ontong Java Adaptation and Resilience Project won’t be proceeding in this current MFAT funding round.

Of course, that’s disappointing. A lot of heart, prayer, and effort went into this project, not only from our team, but from our partners in the Anglican Church of Melanesia who continue to serve so faithfully in challenging conditions.

But if there's there's one thing I’ve learned in this work it's this: faithfulness is seen by presence. It's by showing up.

Again and again, Scripture reminds us that God’s people have been called to persevere. Whether it’s Abraham stepping out not knowing where he was going, or the disciples casting their nets again after a long, empty night, faith has always been about continuing to show up, trusting that God is already at work.

And that's what we'll keep on doing! While this particular opportunity with MFAT hasn’t gone ahead, we’re deeply encouraged by their recognition of the project’s quality, our strengthened partnership, and the solid systems that have been built through the process. We’re still accredited, we’re still ready, and we’re well positioned to apply for the next funding round.

And while we dream new ideas and make new plans, we'll continue to faithfully show up. For our Pacific neighbours. And for the Church that continues to walk with us in faith and generosity.

We deeply believe in the power of prayer. It sustains and strengthens this work more than anything else. As we step into the next season, we’d love you to pray with us and for us.

You can sign up for our 2026 Partners in Prayer Journal here, which includes thoughtful reflections and prayer points for the Church’s ongoing mission in Papua New Guinea and across the Pacific. And if you’ve supported this project and would like to discuss how your gift can be redeployed toward future Solomon Islands initiatives, please get in touch - we’d love to hear from you.

There's lots to look forward to, and as you'll see in the stories below. We're so grateful to have you along on the journey with us!

    The International Adaptation Futures conference.

Phoebe and Jen attended the 2025 International Adaptation Futures conference in mid-October, which was held in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Phoebe reflects on the conference and some of the lessons learned.

The International Adaptation Futures Conference was an incredible opportunity to learn from and collaborate with researchers, academics, and policymakers from around the world.

Held over four days, the conference focused on the importance and necessity of indigenous knowledge systems in climate adaptation planning, and specifically how these knowledge systems can strengthen resilience and capacity in the Pacific.

It was an absolute privilege to learn from community members from Tonga, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands, who shared what was working in their communities, and what still needed to be done.

We were encouraged to hear people discussing the value of working through churches, as they are often central to enacting community adaptation and resilience. Back in Wellington, we plan to put this knowledge into action by ensuring that our current and future projects with the Pacific are long-term and grounded in relationships.

As it was phrased at AF2025, “we move at the speed of trust,” and we are excited to build deeper relationships across all our projects.
